written for Rachel Childs
I began a determined exercise journey back in 2017, as I was beginning to push for first publication. My first trainer was Hayley, who was instrumental in setting standards, and crucially helped me through the loss of my gallbladder and subsequent rehab. After she left my Gym, Rachel took over the task.
In the time since we have been together, she has kept me focussed and determined. I was coached by her through all the Lockdowns, and out of COVID, and I am now satisfyingly close to being able to deadlift my own body weight. She has been a constant source of inspiration and power for many, MANY years.
I would be far less of a person without her.
Every Set
in this space
where exercise resides
the whole has existed for as long
as a mind knew depth
the earliest moments of connection
the progress which thrives and survives
comprehension that will maintain
which now remains ensuring
all items of true value
can enrich this life
you gave me what you know
made me lift it hold it high
asked how much of it was truth
what I could then quantify
between each set and rest you taught
everything that matters and is worth
allowed me to unearth a truth
to place forgiveness of my self
wearing all that I have ever hefted
in this space where progress is derived
