The Lever

written for Amber Merry-Turansky

I met Amber at an event at the Arts Collective she now works for. In the time since that point they have always been somewhere in the periphery of my artistic experiences in this City. Amber is a very skilled photographer, an amazing cook and one of the most wholesome human beings I have ever encountered.

This poem was written for her wedding in May of 2026, and marks for me a significant change of approach when it comes to tapping into emotional resonance. Knowing bother her and her now husband by their deeds and technical expertise, this poem unlocked a new technical approach to how I write about the World I know.

I hope this is not the last wedding poem I get to write either.

The Lever

this is the beginning of your future
only yesterday you were two
today becomes a fresh new both
a suitable beginning
a well planned celebration
a fresh and vital one

this is a present that you built from scratch
from fields via workshops to home
the establishment of a perfect union
accepted furnished that now is whole
between the hens and wires and songs
brilliant artists establishing their skills

this is where you construct a future
and it will entertain forever more
each dance flyby or photograph
all together building to a collage
of love that was assembled together
with new life waiting to be unpacked

this is my gift to you a lever
you are the means to change the World
with everything you do as full on
imbued with truth and care to wield
take these words and let them remind
that your bond lasts to the end of time
