Mother and Child Reunion

created for Samantha Ranger and Julie Delves

There are a number of mum and daughter combinations I have encountered in the Gym since COVID ended. Julie (mum) and Sammi (daughter) are the ones I aspire to emulate. Carrying a child is hard work, I know, but doing that and still being able to do a 45 minute HIIT class every week is staggering.

Sammi’s determination pre and post-pregnancy is matched by Julie’s ability to just keep going when lesser mortals like me are lying in a hot, sweaty mess on the floor. They both run faster than I will ever be capable of. I continue to be in utter awe of them both.

When I grow up, THIS is how I want to do exercise 😀

Mother and Child Reunion

and I’m still not sure
how either of them do it

that everything’s attainable
continuing to be so
that their energy combined
can and does move mountains

and set the world to rights
what I can be sure of is

between them they eclipse
the sun and moon
energising sea and sky
cosmic power’s definition

and their next generation
who was forged within

this crucible of pain
sweat and endeavour
will now possess a
truth beyond their years

that anything is possible
within a mother’s arms
