Mirror Twin

written for Amelia Clark

My first meeting with Amelia was online, as has been the case over the last few years. We still have not yet managed to align our schedules sufficiently to make a real life get together happen, but when it does (and it will) I’m reasonably confident I’ll end up feeling like I’ve known them forever.

The artwork below is part of a larger project that has emerged from the journey I’ve been through with my second pamphlet, which is now due to be published in October. Amelia walked directly into my brain and has created a piece of art which, I’ll be honest, reduced me to tears when I first saw it.

Ours is a story which is only beginning to be written, and I really do hope there are many more chapters as yet untold.

Mirror Twin

This will be the moment

direction’s confident reset
away from that which previously

mattered more than being fixed
put aside old histories
in truth throw them away

let us both decide to live again.
Let us emerge into new light
prepared to maintain confidence
in position satisfaction unconstrained.

Let new life reflect within the selves.
