Keep Dancing

created for Avril Hockett

There have been a number of occasions in my life where a single event altered my world view for good. One happened when I was 18, staring at a cinema screen and realising that there was a part of me that was somehow absent. Another was when my son was born by emergency C-Section.

Then there was that evening where, with a group of other women in the converted fire station that is now an Arts venue in Hadleigh, I was reminded that all that I am is very much dependant on how I move. Watching other women do so freely and without restriction forced open an unexpectedly closed door in my head.

I am yet to explore that space, and I have Avril to thank for making me aware that it existed. Another force of nature, she has helped me reassess what it means to be me in a world when sometimes it feels I am nothing at all.

Movement is the key to new evolutions.

Keep Dancing

A dancer stands choices within view
last moments of this narrative appear
action becomes movement turning true

a firm destination’s drawing near
underneath possibility arising
reality presents a fresh idea

holding close emotions unsurprising
unexpected outcomes will compel
an elemental force gathered in the swell

strength is now emergent and excels
beauty rising holding time again
remake beauty passion as you move.
