created for Chezza
I am lucky enough, from time to time, to come upon women who simply make me feel at ease, without any of the normal processes and timescales that this entails. In the Gym, it took me years at first to make friends, and as it began to get easier, COVID happened.
Chezza and I are the first real friendship post-COVID to have stuck. She is there almost as much as I am, which always helps, and her attitude to everything is just the right combination of comfort and humour. Everyone needs a mate from time to time to talk about stuff with over a cuppa and a breakfast roll.
This was also the last poem that I wrote in this sequence.
Table 8
here is where mindsets are exercised
where two pasts are ever present
for we are instruments that shine
reminders in Lycra with coffee
of rare beauty in the graft
let me explain the problem
and you’ll become solutions
not only helpful but strong
molten memories live on
acceptance of two histories
a table of joyful contents
chatting babies wisdom sound
our halves perfectly in balance
that this circle is our world
and it is far more than enough
